When I was in law school, my favorite hour of the day was at 5 a.m. I would go to Starbucks, and be the first customer through the doors. I loved the quiet, and the smell of fresh-brewed coffee. But also, there's something about the air at 5 o'clock in the morning. It's crisp and cool on the skin, yet quite inviting.
But enjoying my favorite hour of the day required getting up at least an hour before (4 a.m.), and thus, also required a lot of planning. It was easier when my only two big responsibilities were to study and go to class. Now, my calendar is filled with a list of priorities that are all competing to be in the No. 1 spot. Therefore, planning my day so that I can get to bed earlier and be half-alive at 4 a.m. is almost impossible. Plus, the older I get the more I find that sleep is good ... well, I find that my body needs sleep much more than it did years ago.
However, with all the new changes lately, I decided why not try to enjoy my favorite hour of the day again? Let's see if I can do it. Worth a try, right? And well, the busyness of work and other responsibilities shouldn't deprive us so much of what makes us happy. Or our favorites in life.
So here I am ... at 5 o'clock in the morning.
